Currently, I reside in Roseville, CA and live with my aunt and uncle. Through the Home Environmental Health and Safety Assessment, I was able to assess any issues and potential environmental hazards. The home was built fairly recently, 2006, and passed proper home inspection before occupation. In our house, we are all equally responsible for each other's environmental health and safety. Using this tool, I recognize some strength and weakness in our home environmental health and safety.
One strength of our home is that we have most detectors located throughout the house. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are evenly spaced and working. In case of a fire or disaster, we have a fire extinguisher located in the common area, and we have discussed a proper evacuation route and disaster plan if needed. With our shelter-in-place supplies contain a solar-powered radio and other non-perishable food items. We also do not own any mercury devices, and our appliances that use gas are properly vented. We also recently had an ant infestation that required exterminators to mediate the issue. After a discussion with the exterminators, they discussed that they use the least toxic option in our situation.
As a family, we reflected on our use of air fresheners, candles, and scented plug-ins. We were unaware of the potential hazards in the use of air fresheners, candles, and scented plug-ins. We were also unaware of the safety precautions we have taken against Radon.
